Tuesday, July 29, 2014, St. Martha Jeremiah 14:17-22, Psalm 79:8-9, 11, 13, Luke 10:38-42 A DEDICATED SERVICE Friends, today, the Church commemorates Martha, that woman, who with her sister Mary, served the Lord with zest. The gospel would help us to reflect on the various ways we render service to the Lord. In the first century, throwing a banquet probably involved running out to the pasture and catching a frolicking sheep, dragging it home, slaughtering and butchering it, getting wood for a fire, cooking the meat in searing heat in the midst of an already arid climate, baking numerous loaves of bread from scratch, and many other details of preparing the house and the table which involved great physical toil. Martha loved Jesus so much that she spared no detail for the privilege of honouring him. Mary, however, spent hours at the feet of Jesus listening to him. Dear friends, Jesus calls us each day to render service to him based on our individual talents. Serve the Lord with your whole being as Mary and Martha did, even in the midst of challenges. Peace !!
