Tuesday, March 18, 2014 Exodus 34:14 “Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.” Ellen and I have been married close to 41 years now. We have gone through good times, and hard times, times of prosperity, and times of want, but through it all we have had each other. Why? Because we are jealous, as God is jealous, for our time together. We have made our time together a priority above all else. We have heard people say; “Where there is one, the other is close around.” We have been willing to set things aside for the sake of the other, a wanting to spend as much time as possible with each other. That is how God is with us, jealous for our time, wanting to spend as much time as possible with us. How much time do you spend with God? How busy are you? Are you willing to set things aside to be with God? Do you desire, above all else, to be with God? Do you find yourself saying; I can’t wait to get home and spend time with God? Eavesdropping on a conversation the other day, and this is not the first time we have heard this. The topic was when one spouse retires and disrupts the routine of the other. We both felt how sad it is, their priorities have passed from the one they married, to others, or something else, they have made for themselves other idols, and entered into a life of idolatry. That is what we do to God, create for ourselves other idols, and get mad at the scripture that God is a jealous God. People have left serving God, because they do not want to serve a jealous God. Relationships have broken up for the same reason, you are too demanding, too possessive, too wanting. I cannot imagine not wanting to spend as much time as I can with Ellen. I also cannot imagine not wanting to spend as much time as possible with God. Some would say; “That is easy for you to say, you are retired.” But, those who know us, know that we have always been this way, even before retirement, it is a matter of priorities. God is jealous of your time, and how, where, and when you spend it. Are you just as jealous of God’s time for you? Altar Call: Today: is the day of your salvation. Today: is the day to make yourself right with God. Today: if you have heard God’s voice, do not harden your heart against Him. Today: give yourself totally over to God and walk in His ways. Response: Heavenly Father, have mercy on me, a sinner. Forgive me Lord Jesus, and come into my heart as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank You that You love me so much that You died for me on the cross of Mount Calvary so long ago. I give you my life and ask you to take full control of my life, so that my life may be pleasing to You, from this moment on. Teach me Your Word (the Bible), fill me with the Holy Spirit, so that I can defeat the enemy’s attempt to sway me away from You. I accept You as my Lord and Savior and will strive to obey Your commands and live my life as You have exemplified in Your Word (the Bible). I pray this in the name, and power of my Lord, and Savior, Jesus. Amen! Sharing the love of Jesus through preaching the uncompromising Word of God, To Whomever, Wherever, Whenever.
