Tuesday Treasures by Janie NUMBER SEVENTEEN Tuesday, July 9, 2013 Marriage is a choice I have been married to this man for almost 42 years. We married quickly after our initial dates. We just wanted to get the connection fixed, so we could move on with the adventures of life together. On August 14, 1971, we married in a ceremony in my best friend’s front yard. It was the only day that summer that it did not rain. The sunshine gave us promise of a good life together. Today, as I look backwards I find the reflection full of wonder. We were two people working so hard to be developed and positive people. Two people fighting through the personal negative influences of growing up without GOD. Two people trying to unite in a marriage connection for a lifetime. Somehow along the way, we found an art deco type of anniversary card that said: “This is the marriage that would not die!” We laughed and immediately framed the card. It resided on our wall for years. We were so represented by the couple on the card-two stubborn and angry people working together to maintain this marriage connection. We have done it for 42 years. GOD blessed us with family and helped us raise them. We had two beautiful little girls and surrounded them with admiring love and attention. GOD was the center of the home by then. We struggled, and yet survived through the years only through the care and grace of the FATHER The children grew and eventually began their own marriage connections-sometimes including the FATHER and sometimes not. Inside, though, they know the value of LIFE IN CHRIST and the necessity to seek the FATHER’s face for the daily walk and for the future. I stand firm today. I am thankful for the failures and thrilled for the successes. I am grateful for a lifetime with my best friend wrapped in the love of the FATHER. Thank you JESUS for giving us perseverance and grace. Lead us in the rest of our days. Allow us to reach out to others and share the lessons we’ve learned in this life together. A man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and the two people will become one. Matthew 19:5 Let marriage be held in honor among all. Hebrews 13:4 He is the glue that holds all things together. Colossians 1:17
