Tuesday: masterclasses have dominated throughout the day. Right now concert number 1 at Johanniskirche attracts students and music lovers from the region. Cello teacher Frans Helmerson performs an all-Beethoven programme. First as a soloist playing the sonata for violoncello and piano, No.3 in A -Major. Later on, Frans will be performing in the Michelangelo String Quartet. The musicians will stage Beethovens string quartet in B flat major, op.18. The following photos portray a few students who took masterclasses with David Geringas and Gary Hoffman during today´s morning and afternoon sessions. Mr. Geringas´ student,17-year old Johannes Gray from Chicago, was very focussed because he took this masterclass already with view to his participation in the Grand Prix Emanuel Feuermann where he will compete as one of 12 finalists. I´ve learned a lot, he told us, one of the takeaways for me was to first envision an understanding of the composition, only thereafter executing from a technical standpoint. Overall, Johannes looked pretty satisfied after completion of his masterclass.
