Tuesday’s work day is now complete. Due to circumstances beyond Watoto’s control, the basketball court project has not been started. It looks like we might not be able to see any of its work done or completed before we leave. We’ve been promised a lot of pictures from the basketball coach when it is complete. In the meantime, we went back to working on the walkway project today. During yesterdays work, we noticed that the shovels were barely useable with broken tips and cracked shovel heads. The team decided that rather purchase thank you gifts for a few of our special friends that we would instead donate brand new shovels in honor of them. So, we purchased 9 new shovels and delivered them to the job site. The men were delighted and the Forman personally thanked us and explained how much they really could use them. Manual labor is hard enough but could you imagine doing it with broken tools. It gave us great pleasure to be able to help make their job a little easier. We hope it gives great pleasure to our special friends too! While we were working and building up quite a sweat, Randy asked if we had any bandanas. Well it was our good fortune that Trisha Ferguson purchased an entire bag of bandanas. Once Randy put it on, all of the Ugandan workers were in awe. So, out came the bandanas so all of the workers received one. You can see all of the bright colors on their heads in some of these pictures. Thanks Trish – we knew they were meant for us but we enjoyed seeing them wear them more. We are really moving fast on the walkway project. We have completed so much more than they had imagined. We finished another string of pathway before lunch and they began adding more rods to begin another string. If we keep this up, we might actually complete this project which was only planned to be ½ completed. God has given us the strength and stamina to work hard and fast. So, let me see…St. James will be providing a basketball court for Watoto Bbira, new playground equipment installed for Watoto Gulu, and hopefully complete a 200’ walkway (give or take a foot) for Watoto Suubi. Wow, God has certainly sent us to make a difference for not just one but three villages!
