Tuition and fees at UAB in 1983-84 was about $1,500 a year. I lived at home and commuted. Tuition, room and board, fees, etc. at Vanderbilt in 2014-15 is $63,360 a year. This is not an April Fools joke. As long as we keep concentrating wealth in the hands of a few, and touting college as the only way to jump from the have-littles to haves, there will be enough $ and demand to keep driving the cost upward, it seems. The only real question left is, which university will be the first to cost $1 million for four years? Were about a quarter of the way there, and rocketing upward. The race is on.
