Tunisia’s Unfinished Revolution... The World Bank Issued “The Unfinished Revolution” Report on Tunisia: The World Bank published a report on the state of Tunisia’s economy titled “The Unfinished Revolution: Bringing Opportunity, Good Jobs And Greater Wealth To All Tunisians.” Throughout, it argues that despite the potential that Tunisia holds, “Tunisian prosperity has been held back by policies that have reduced the country’s overall economic performance,” including often well-intended but misguided policies, restriction of economic participation to small portions of the population, and a too-heavily regulated access to the market. It further argues that Tunisia is now at a crossroads and that it can follow the economic model that led in part to the January 2011 revolution, or it can reform. Though “Tunisia has achieved significant progress on the political front… the economic system that existed under Ben Ali has not been changed significantly.” The World Bank report is intended to contribute to the dialogue around Tunisia’s economic system by providing an “assessment of Tunisia’s development policies” and articulating “a vision for a different development model - to move Tunisia from a system based on privileges to one based on competition, bringing good quality jobs and prosperity to all Tunisians.” In addition, the World Bank also released a video on the report, available in English, French, Tounsi and Arabic.
