Turkish Law Association Declaration Problems concerning science, culture, environment, fundamental freedoms and rights cannot be subject to a referendum. Moreover, the Turkish Constitution states that only amendments of the Constitution can be presented to a popular vote. Furthermore, municipalities have no possibility to determine the desires of the people except for the possibility to make public opinion surveys. The attempt to organize a referendum concerning the plans about Istanbul Gezi Parki despite the Constitution, legal regulations and the decisions of the Supreme Election Board, constitutes a diversion of the public opinion and is misleading and increasingly deceitful.
