Tuskegee Surges to top of HSRN Division II Poll; Bethune-Cookman Holds FCS Lead The Tuskegee University Golden Tigers surged ahead of Winston-Salem State in the Heritage Sports Radio Network (HSRN) Division II Football Poll and the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats held on to their top ranking in the Division I (FCS) poll after week two of the 2013 football season. Bethune-Cookman (2-0) remained undefeated on the season after they pummeled Virginia Union 66-7 last week. Tennessee State (1-1) moved from fourth to second place after they evened their record with a 27-7 win at Florida A&M (1-1). The Aggies of North Carolina A&T (1-0) opened their season with a stunning 24-21 in at Appalachian State. Jackson State (1-1) moved from the seventh to fourth spot, outlasting Alabama State (0-2) at home and Howard (1-1) maintained their fifth place ranking with their 27-16 win over Morehouse in the DC Classic. Florida A&M slipped to sixth place, from third with their 27-7 loss to Tennessee State and Alabama A&M (1-1) slipped from second to seventh when they were shocked by Tuskegee 23-7 at home. Alabama State (0-2) fell from fifth to eighth spot when they fell to Jackson State and Prairie View A&M (1-1) fell to ninth after their 28-3 loss at Texas State. Alcorn State (1-1) broke into the rankings at the tenth spot despite their loss at FBS Mississippi State. In the Division II Poll, Tuskegee (1-0) opened their season with a 23-7 win at FCS Alabama A&M, while Winston-Salem State (0-1) was shocked 25-21 at Pembroke State. The Saint Augustine’s Falcons (0-1) moved from seventh to a third place tie after their spirited but losing effort in double OT (23-20) at North Carolina Central. Ft. Valley State (0-1) shares the third spot in the HSRN Division II poll after they dropped a 36-21 decision to perennial power Valdosta State. The Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (1-0) moved from ninth to fifth after they dispatched Livingstone College 34-17, in a continuation of the oldest HBCU football game in the United States. Miles (0-1) drops from third to sixth after their 42-7 loss at North Alabama and Elizabeth City State (0-1) drops from fourth to seventh place after their 35-32 loss to Newberry. Previously unranked Stillman (1-0) and Shaw (1-0) break into the poll at eighth and ninth respectively with wins over Concordia-Selma (52-0) and Charleston (W. Va), 44-14 respectively. Albany State (0-1) slips from eighth to tenth with their 26-24 loss at North Greenville.
