Tutorial for Bumper Bangs: Things you will need: - bobby pins - teasing comb - hairspray - hair rat Step 1: Firstly, with your teasing comb, you need to section off the hair that will be used to create bumper bangs. The best way to do this is to go back roughly halfway across the top of your head, and section of the left and right side so a nice even parting is made, which contains enough hair to create the bangs. Do not section off the sides too far down your head otherwise the hair wont fit across the hair rat properly. If you already have natural bangs or shorter layers at the top, you will probably have to take hair from a little further back in order to conceal the hair rat completely, as I have done so. Step 2: The next step generally involves teasing. I tend to not need to tease it as it sits on the hair rat comfortable and evenly without it, but some may have to. To this you take the section of hair you have just section off, split it into two layers and tease the layer underneath in order to create a little volume. This can be done with the same teasing comb as you used before, and just spray the section a little so the tease holds. Step 3: Now you take your hair rat. I am just using a bun enhancer cut in half, like the ones we have at Your One Stop PinUp Shop. This step is the most crucial to securing a strong bumper bang that wont fall out during the day. Take the hair rat and place it underneath the section of hair, ensuring the top layer of hair is nice and smooth. Place the rat approximately 3/4 of the way down the section of hair. Now, roll the hair around the rat, making sure that it you pull nice and tight. The tighter you pull, the more secure your hair will be. If you start rolling too far down it makes it a little harder to keep a firm grip on the rat, so make sure you starting rolling at the right spot. Also ensure that any shorter pieces of hair from your fringe or layers are secure underneath everything, because the top layer needs to be nice and smooth. Step 4: When you reach the top of the head and can no longer roll, you need to spread the hair out evenly across the rat. If you kept a firm grip on the hair, it should already feel quite secure without any pins. To get the hair to spread out evenly simply keep twisting the hair rat. I find this technique generally works best for me. You can also use your fingers to lightly spread the hair out across the rat. It is best to use a hair rat that matches your hair colour as best it can. At YOSPS we have them in stock in black, brown and blonde, having something to cover most hair colours. Since my hair is bright red I use a black one as it shows through least. Make sure that your hair also covers the ends of the rat. If a little shows through this is okay, but as long as the front and most of the sides are concealed with hair, you should be fine. Step 5: Once you feel that you have successfully spread all the hair across the rat, you need to slightly turn the sides of the rat into the sides of your head, so that they follow the line of where you have parted your hair. This is to ensure a natural looking bang from the front. It is time to start pinning! You can use as many, or as little bobby pins as you like! I tend to only need about 4 pins, one in each side to anchor the rat, and then somewhere in the front underneath just to ensure my hair stays in place, especially since I have natural bangs. Like I said, you can use as many pins as you like, just make sure they are all concealed! Now you can spray it! You can use your teasing comb if you like to smooth out the top layer across the rat, and once you feel you are happy with the result, spray the daylights out of it!! Spray the top, underneath, the sides, wherever you feel you need to! Step 6: Volia! You are done!
