Twas the night before Christmas, when all through St. - TopicsExpress

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through St. Francis Not a creature was stirring, not even a lab tech. The IVs were hung by the bedside with care, In hopes that relief and healing soon would be there. The patients were nestled all snug in their electric, adjustable beds, While visions of REAL FOOD danced in their heads. And Mom, with her ears covered, and I on the sofa had just settled our brains in hope for a nap (crossed fingers I hopa, I hopa) When out in the hall there arose such a clatter I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away from the window I moved like a snail, Tore open the covers and almost tripped on a pail. The glow of the lights on the fresh polished floor, Gave an eerie reflection on objects galore. When what to my blurry eyes did appear, But a spunky ole gal in a hospital bed, With a sparkle in her eyes and a grin so quick I knew in a moment what she wanted ... “I need an ice chip, my tongue feels thick” More rapid than seasons change, I dug in the cup, As she whispered and waiting and said, “Please, hurry up”. Now retching, now gagging, now weakness & GI bleeding, Now anemia and edema and all ailments with meaning ... From the bottom of our toes, to the top wishes of all Now dash away, dash away ... HEALING TO ALL! As leaves that before a wild hurricane fly when met with an obstacle mount to the sky, Those ailments have met a match, one they cant beat. So gradually, so hopefully, Mom gets back on her feet. With a will, with a strong spirit and lots of patience too. With a fan club and a funny family, all cheering, “WOOHoo!” And then with alarms beeping I heard at the station The tip toe and whispering care of each talented technician. As I uncovered my head and was turning around Through the door, all those helpers came with a bound. They dress in different colors to designate function, They have courage, compassion and plenty of gumption. A bundle of tools and techniques they have up their sleeve, to deliver and administer the help that we need. Their eyes how they twinkle, their smile – so merry. Their help is nice as roses, they are as sweet as a cherry. With grin on their mouth, with patience without end Their skillful nursing helps us to mend. The help from their hands get us ready to go, Although the Epic computer sometimes make them grit their teeth, the kind assistance given circles their head like a halo, or wreath. Some have a round face, some have a round belly, They are tireless & caring – truly like a healing elf. I feel comfortable and trust them, in spite of myself. They speak words of kindness, some go straight to their work They have full filled our expectations and helped as they can While we wait on healing delivered by a plan. And praying and hoping, and with time her vitals rose. Soon well rise from this bed and be off to: Who knows? Away we will fly, with a cheer and a whistle. Bolt away from here with speed somewhere between slug and a missile. But for now, before we nod off to sleep, We think of our people and the memories we keep ... MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!
