Twelve years after September 11th, each and every one of us must look at ourselves in the mirror and realize the awful truth: Bin Laden and his company wanted to do damage to the American psyche, and they did. We as a nation have given in to fear, not love. We have let fear dictate foreign policy and domestic priorities. We strive to keep our economy high for our own egos, and have surrendered personal rights for the threat of terror. We remember and honor the 2,996 casualties of that day, as well as the additional victims in the following years. But in order to do that, we must remember that they were fathers, mothers, daughters and sons. That they had passions and people whom they loved. They had dreams and hopes, and causes that made life worth living. I urge all of us to start living without fear; without fear to paralyze true change in this country, a true change in condition. We must all be willing to move forward and improve our society, so that the children of the 2,996 will live in a better world.
