Twenty five% of college students suffer from an eating disorder this information according to the national institute of mental health. And eating disorder is the highest mortality rates of any psychiatric. Females between the ages of 15-24 with anorexia are 12 times more likely to die from the illness. Two of the deadliest eating disorders there are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa is a restriction of food intake resulting in a significantly low body weight. Bulimia nervosa is often it has a normal body weight but have recurrent episodes of binge eating characterized by eating a large amount of food in a short period of time with q sense of lack of control. The development of both anorexia and bulimia is associated with an excessive influence of body dissatisfaction on self worth. Body image start at a young age, although 98% of the american female population is not as thin as fashion models .69% elementary school female say that media image influenza their ideal body shape and 47% say the image make them want to lose weight. Ideal body images often leads to unhealthily eating habits such as skipping meals, purging and pathological dieting .these habits are widespread on college campus students. They dont realized that they are putting them-self at risk . They always skip meals during the day so the feel that they can go to dinner its called nap diet has also gained popularity. Although many of these poor eating habits mentioned are not considered to be full blown eating disorders such as anorexia or bulimia. They are risky because 25% of pathological dieters will eventually develop a full-blown disorder. The media influenced epidemic of dissatisfaction and normalization of pathological dieting has led to this dangerous increase of eating disorder among college students,they need treated early.
