Twenty-nine years ago on 3 July (1984) an avalanche struck Los Liberadores, Chile, an immigration, customs, police complex near the Argentine border. At the time the Andes were experiencing one of the worst winters in decades. Scores of people were caught and 27 killed. Many of the victims included family members who lived at the post. Every year on the day of accident a memorial service, organized by the Policía de Investigaciones (who lost 7 members) is held so not to forget all those who lost their lives.
