Twice this week people have brought up to me the transients who stand on street corners begging for small change (spoken with scorn I might add.) Personally, I have to hand it to them for exhibiting sheer determination. Imagine what it’s like to stand out there for hours in any kind of weather holding a sign proclaiming you need money and being scorned for your efforts? Seems to me it’s not a job I’d want…but they have found a way to support themselves, haven’t they? (Hopefully) I give them an ‘A’ for effort. At least they aren’t so blasé as to try to pass themselves off as successful businessmen. When I look at guys like Romney who make their fortunes buying up companies, leveraging them into debt, splitting the windfall with the top brass and then filing bankruptcy while putting hundreds out of work…then storing the booty in the Cayman Islands to avoid paying taxes…it makes the guys on the street corner look really good! At least they aren’t pretending to be honest, upstanding citizens while fleecing millions from the unsuspecting public.
