Twilight walk aims to shine light of hope: THE annual Mandurah Light the Night Community Walk aims to give people with blood cancer a brighter future. Light the Night is the Leukaemia Foundation’s inspiring twilight walk. It aims to raise vital funds for blood cancer research and to help find a cure for leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma. “When you lose somebody special or survive blood cancer, it leaves you with a very powerful urge to help find a cure,” Mandurah Light the Night community host Jo Vergone said. “This highlights the importance of ongoing research into blood cancer treatment and the need for ongoing support.” Each member of the Mandurah Light the Night committee has been touched by blood cancer is some way. They aim to raise $10,000. Ms Vergone was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2011. “I jumped on the rollercoaster of constant visits to the doctor, an aggressive chemotherapy treatment regime, hospital stays and blood transfusions and put the rest of my life on hold for 15 months.” The walk is on Saturday, October 19 at the eastern foreshore.
