Twinkle Update: So, our girl is doing well. 4 months since this all started, almost two months with the Inflammatory Bowel Disease diagnosis and we are making progress. Her last two vet appointments showed a rise in liver values (which can be a side effect of the steroid) so we are weaning her off the pred faster than the vet wanted to but she still has solid poop, no vomiting, she is eating etc so were happy. She is at 10mg every 3rd day for 3 doses and then she will be completely off. (Yay) She is on Denamarin for liver support, we finally have a probiotic she tolerates with no problem (Proviable), shell get her vitamin B12 shots every two weeks and then once a month and is on a lower dose of metronidazole which we are looking forward to weaning her off as well. She is still on the rabbit and potato diet by Natural Balance 4 times a day. After she has been stable for some time we will contact a nutritionist and see if we can get her off the kibble and on a home made diet. With this particular disease you have to be be really careful for flare ups are common so we want to make sure her intestinal track is sound before we try switching anything, so that will be awhile. She has not chased a ball, or gone for a run or a hike in 4 months so we look forward to the snow melting and letting her be herself again. Well start slow of course. She still wants to inhale and consume wood chips and splinters from the wood stove and still looks for poop anywhere for a snack (I do feel years of these two OCD habits have something to do with her compromised intestinal track) that and we continue to be vigilant in vacuuming every time we stock the stove (can you say pain in the butt) and poop is scooped as soon as it is….well you know, no need to go into too much detail. Bo mentioned putting a muzzle on her which made me cringe. While Twinkle will you allow you to dress her up and put sun glasses on her and this and that for the good of the public and getting her messages across, I KNOW the Black Dog Ninja will NOT tolerate a muzzle. She wont even wear a dog coat when we go for walks, I doubt a muzzle will go over very well. Have a great Wednesday everyone and lets hope Spring is right around the corner. xoxo
