Twitter enters social data partnership with IBM IBM and Twitter have announced a new partnership which aims to apply data gathered by the social network to solve business problems, with IBM’s analytics software and large consulting staff given access to the huge volumes of information generated by Twitter users. IBM’s roughly 10,000 consultants will be granted access to the full public stream of tweets in real-time, and will also be provided with a complete archive of all tweets generated since the site was founded in 2006.IBM will also roll Twitter data into ExperienceOne, its portfolio of sales and marketing software products, and Bluemix, its cloud development platform. Announcing the agreement, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said: ‘Businesses have only scratched the surface of what is possible.’ Seeking to benefit more from its ‘firehose’ of data while user growth slows, Twitter has noted that its new relationship with IBM – ‘years in the making’ – was made possible by the recent acquisition of social data provider Gnip, which provided the platform capable of delivering such a volume of data to its partners.
