Two Mites Mark 12:42 “And there came a certain poor - TopicsExpress

Two Mites Mark 12:42 “And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.” From the court of the Gentiles where Jesus had been teaching He entered the court of women. In this area there were several cone shaped collection receptacles to receive offerings from the people. From this point, Jesus was observing people toss their offerings in the repositories. In contrast with the money that was cast in by many wealthy individuals, a poor widow woman cast in two mites. She cast in about 1/64th of a Roman denarius or in our terns a fraction of a penny. Jesus graciously spoke in her favor when He acknowledged that sacrificially she had given more than all contributors that day. Perceptibly, Jesus used this occasion to teach His men about whole-hearted commitment to God. Commitment is measured in sincerity and sincerity in sacrifice. There are people that have so much time on their hands a couple of hours is not really a sacrifice. There are others that have so much money that a thousand dollars is not a sacrifice. When we give up time and money to the point we cannot do some of the things we want to do we are sacrificing life, showing sincerity, and committing our lives to God. Pastor Wilson (2-19-2014)
