Two Niota Police Officers are scheduled to go to trial August 12 on charges of alleged brutality on a man in June 2011. The victim was Ray Stewart, who had been working on bringing public problems that he had with officers writing tickets and making stops outside their jurisdiction. Stewart was stopped for making a U turn on his scooter. A video of the entire incident was made, and at one point, after Stewart was commanded to put his hands behind his back, you hear a loud crash. Stewart says that he was body-slammed head first into concrete. A grand jury indicted both officers on the charges of official oppression and conspiracy to commit official oppression.
