Two al-Qaeda bombers were discovered living as refugees in Kentucky public housing. An investigation showed that Iraqi nationals, Mohanad Shareef Hammadi and Waad Ramadan Alwan, were allowed to immigrate to America as refugees and settle in Bowling Green, Ky., which is close to the Army’s Fort Knox and Fort Campbell. The investigation uncovered that the terrorists were living in public housing and receiving welfare assistance. Federal investigators secretly recorded Alwan bragging about building bombs in Iraq and using a sniper rifle to kill American troops throughout Baghdad. In 2011 and 2012, Hammadi and Alwan pleaded guilty to “conspiring to ship thousands in cash, machine guns, rifles, grenades and should-fired missiles to al-Qaeda in Iraq.
