Two bag free Hajj in Oyo, as Ajimobi rewards ex-pilgrim with N1m for honesty Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State on Thursday awarded free pilgrimage to Mecca to two winners of a Quranic competition, even as he gave N1 million reward to a pilgrim to the 2012 hajj who found N5 million and returned it to the officials of the State Pilgrims Welfare Board. He made the declaration on Thursday while addressing this year’s intending pilgrims to Mecca at the Olodo Hajj Camp, Ibadan. The governor, who was highly impressed with the dexterity displayed by the competitors in the mastery of Holy Quran, said that two winners had put in extra efforts in the recitation of Quran which he said had given them the opportunity to bag the award. The two winners were Mr. Ismail Ibrahim and Miss Zainab Abdul-Razaq, while Alhaja Muinatu Agboluaje received the Governor’s N1 million reward for her honesty while in the Holy Land. He also assured that those who participated in the Quranic competition would be subsequently considered for pilgrimage to Mecca. Governor Ajimobi, at the occasion, assured that the first set of pilgrims from the state would be airlifted from Ibadan to save them the agony of travelling to Lagos before they could continue their journey to the Holy Land. He charged the intending pilgrims to be good ambassadors of the state by exhibiting good behavior and impeccable character. ``Just like the last year’s pilgrims from Oyo State behaved well and demonstrated to be good ambassadors of the state, I am sure this year’s pilgrims will also do the same because they have of good characters and good quality. They are men and women who are Godly and God-fearing,’’ he said. While calling on the people of the state to continue to support his administration,Governor Ajimobi charged politicians to desist from politics of falsehood, bitterness and character assassination. In his address, the Chairman of the state Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Taofeek Akewugbagold said that a total of 1,227 pilgrims would perform this year’s hajj from the state, adding that no fewer than 700 of the pilgrims would be airlifted to Saudi Arabia between Monday and Tuesday this week. In their various remarks, the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alhaji Abdul-Azeez Arisekola Alao and an Islamic scholar, Sheikh Muideen Bello commended the governor for his various achievements in the state, calling for the support of the people to the governor in all ramifications. ``Let us compensate Ajimobi for the good things he has been doing in Oyo State. Let us join hands together with him to make him succeed,’’ Alhaji Arisekola said, adding ``we have never witnessed the enormous achievements recorded by the Ajimobi administration in Oyo State. Therefore, he deserves our support’’.
