Two from two! Our second competition in Europe today for another placing. Today was our first M test, the FEI 6yo Preliminary test and it was Bundeschampionate qualifier. A different day and a different reaction to the first outing. Today he was much more confident in the ring, handled the judges boxes without a hiccup but unfortunately still a little tension which affected the walk and lost him a little behind the leg in the trot work so couldnt keep him as forward as we needed to be to really show off and present the right frame, but the canter was really great with super flying changes! So steps forward in the right direction at least! The trot that he was giving yesterday was so great in training, really finding the balance to move with cadence and swing. Its just a matter of building upon this so that we can get the strength to keep it consistently and take it to a competition. We are really starting to build a strong partnership again and its coming together nicely. My timing is definitely on the improve to catch him before he gets too long or tries to escape. Jaime is still at me over the effectiveness of my aids... Im still tending to be too passive and accepting of what he gives, and then on occasions I ask too much, but its getting there! Its the best feeling to look forward to every ride and feel the change in his body and the way we work. I cant wait until we can get him freer through the shoulder, its coming as he is starting to lift through the wither more. If we can get the front end out of the way, hes really going to have somewhere to put his hindlegs! So no video of the test (but photos to come when I find out who the photographer was) but Jaime took some of the presentation which he handled really well, but came out and was very pleased with himself and offered piaffe on the way back to the float. He thinks hes such a star with his piaffe, and we tend to agree!!
