Two issues dominate my mind this perfect sunny Johannesburg Sunday. One, last week, Barack Obama, the most powerful man in the world decides to go to a New York restaurant to grab a bite. As norm would dictate in these places, he gives out his credit card to pay off his bill after eating. Horror of horrors then ensues thereafter. His credit card is declined. There are no funds available to pay. Double wow you ask me. How is it that the President of the United States of America, the world most advanced economy, has a credit card that is declined? I then ask myself, who has money then if a person like the US President also does not have? What about a simpleton like Yours Truly? Surely, one can be excused when he says he has no money. It would seem this is a common trends for American presidents to possess no money on them. You will recall that George W. Bush also confessed to such whilst still in office he had no money. He even pulled out his pockets and nothing came. I conclude that nobody has money or cash. Just that some people have access to credit and others do not. Many just swipe. You would envy them once they do so but that to me now, is a sign of extreme poverty that is just disguised. I will remain on my Cash is King policy for now. It works out just fine. Two, many of you readers of this status update must get ready to be disappointed again by South Africas criminal justice system. After the Jub Jub matter and the Oscar one which will be concluded (for now) this coming Tuesday, many peoples regard of the countrys courts is at it lowest ebb currently. You will know by now, if you are following the developments of Shrien Dewani case in the Western Cape High Court, that the 27 year old hit-man (Inkabi), Xolile Mngeni who shot dead Anni Dewani in Cape Town four years again died yesterday in prison. As much as he was not a state witness to be called to back up the prosecutions case against the gay British businessman as he entered not plea bargain with the state, it is difficult to imagine how the state will support its case now. Already, Dewanis advocate, Francois Van Zyl ripped into shreds the driver, Muziwamadoda Qwabe last week in court. His evidence will not be admissible. Zola Tongo, the fixer, is also not reliable as a witness as he also admitted he had never met Shrien Dewani in person prior to Annis death. So there is no way, he could have taken instruction form Mr. Dewani to arrange for the hijacking and ultimate murder of his wife. And now Mngeni is dead. Now, tell me, how is the State getting out of this one? I do not know. My two cents worth is that, Shrien Dewani is most like going to walk out scotch free out of this one and fly back to the UK AN INNOCENT MAN. Not unless, the state pulls out a rabbit out of the bag - and there are not too many rabbits these days. Happy Sunday to you all my Facebook friends as I conclude my domestic chores and prepare to watch Kaizer Chiefs rewrite this history books of South African football this afternoon.
