Two lovers have been dead for about 14 days before their bodies were discovered at their Makolomi Street apartment of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. The lovers identified as Udogi Eguke and Ese were found on Sunday, after stench from their decomposing bodies attracted neighbours. Chief Alfred Onavwa, the deceased’s landlord confirmed the incident. According to Onavwa, he called his tenant, one of the deceased, after he was informed of his unusual absence, but his mobile phone was surprisingly heard ringing upstairs. “On getting close to the door of the private stairway leading to their apartment, I noticed that it was locked from inside, with a stench oozing out,” Vanguard quoted Onavwa as saying. “On realizing this, I personally invited the police who came and broke the door only to discover their decomposing bodies. “Their remains were later deposited in the mortuary and I was made to understand that investigation into the matter was ongoing. Even the Ughelli Divisional Police Officer was here to see things for himself., Onavwa added. The tragic story of the lovers was later revealed. They were said to have been preparing for their wedding which had been fixed for November 22. The cause of their deaths still remain a mystery, but sources say the Delta State Police Command had taken the corpse for autopsy to try and unravel the mystery behind the incident.
