Two observations about Game of Thrones as I sit squarely in season - TopicsExpress

Two observations about Game of Thrones as I sit squarely in season three: 1) The creators of Game of Thrones, the TV show, are savvy. Its as if they have surveyed the kingdom of popular TV/web/film entertainment and pilfered many popular motifs for the show: zombies, dragons, household intrigues, military spies. In one narrative thread you find yourself in The Walking Dead territory. In another narrative thread you think, damn, Im watching a kind of caveman version of Downton Abbey. In yet another narrative thread you suspect the storyteller has done his or her due diligence and really boned up on their Lord of the Rings reading. I just realized in the last episode that one of the narrative threads is a badly disguised, medieval beta version of Homeland. You cant tell me Im wrong, right People? 2) Game of Thrones makes me think this is what Tolkien could have written if hed been born 60-70 years later, raised in the era of Vietnam, dropped some acid, and watched a ton of Sopranos. Hed have been abler to get past all his Catholic moralizing.
