Two of my friends, Matty Uchii McCloud, and Jeanette Ricasio, - TopicsExpress

Two of my friends, Matty Uchii McCloud, and Jeanette Ricasio, shared this video, and it reminded me of how important the job of a teacher is. I left this long response on Jeanettes wall...(Sorry :P ). But I also wanted to share this with a few of you, because I have a few educators as friends, and know some people interested in becoming educators. What are your thoughts? Heres my response. His point is valid. The people who learn well, are the people who are excited about what they are learning. Music, art, dance, games, sports. We see people excel in these things because there is a passion to create, and to become like those whove created. But science, literature, mathematics, social studies, and economics can have similar draws. Its up to the teacher to be excited about what they teach. To know, and care about the outstanding achievements, and necessities of the subject matter. When the teacher is excited, the student can be, as well. They can talk to a student about how their favorite sci fi anime has hints of truth in it; how the laser in a characters guns work, based on the particle physics. They can explain math that was used in the physics, and the questions that led to the creation of that math. They can explain any number of things about the world in great detail, and make people want to learn how to participate. But when you hand a person a packet.... Any person. Just a packet of info..... All they see are words, on a bulk of paper. A solid mass, of responsibility, and perhaps even boredom. There is no imagination there. This packet doesnt promise that they will be at a karaoke in switzerland with friends, because they learned a foreign language - it doesnt make them feel like they are masters of their inner universe by understanding the biochemical machinery of their cells, body and food. It doesnt make them excited about thinking of new laws that could be implemented in a developing city to adjust with the influx of people and affluence. Its just a floppy stack of shoddily stapled papers. A teacher is a guide, a comrade. They are to aid the student in personal growth. A growth that will see them asking questions about themselves, and in turn, the world. A teacher is there to guide them towards the answers, and watch as they gain a masterful grasp of the information, skills, wisdom and knowledge they collect. Its important that our kids are encouraged to seek knowledge, and use it. Laura Fernanda, Randy Duke, Frazer Goldberg, Robert Atreides, Frank Corcoran, Andia Drayton, Alexis Kandra
