Two people have been charged after hydroponic cannabis houses were located in Sydney’s south west. Strike Force Zambesi, comprising officers from South West Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad, was established in April 2011 to target the hydroponic cultivation of cannabis in the region. Just before 9.30am yesterday (Thursday 13 February 2014), officers from the strike force and Camden Local Area Command executed a search warrant at a home on Wellington Street at Buxton. It’s alleged the garage of the home had been extensively modified to grow cannabis hydroponically. A short time later a second search warrant was executed on a home on Davis Place at Thirlmere. During the search officers located a hydroponic cannabis set-up in the rear shed. A 72-year-old man and a 54-year-old woman were arrested at the Thirlmere home and taken to Camden Police Station. The man was charged with multiple cultivating offences and appeared at Campbelltown Local Court yesterday. The woman was charged with similar offences and given conditional bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court on 12 March. Inquiries by Strike Force Zambesi continue. Police are urging anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://police.nsw.gov.au/.
