Two pretty cool things happened today. 1. After a long time of feeling persecuted and oppressed at school, I took a cue from a very wise colleague who I admire. Today in a meeting, I stood up for myself, my colleagues and our programs. It was only moderately scary because I knew I was speaking for others who were also afraid of retaliation. But I spoke loudly, clearly and without apology. Many people see me as fearless, and while I am not, I am steadily moving in that direction, thanks to great role modeling from colleagues. 2. I sight-read a challenging bassoon solo in the absence of our awesome principal bassoonist at tonights Knightwind rehearsal. And I got foot-shuffle love from the band and kind remarks both during and after rehearsal. I finally feel like Im getting back all of my bassoon chops I lost after taking a 10-year break to recover from bassoon burn-out. Im grateful to have my old friend back again, and looking forward to getting even better than I was before. Go, team!
