Two thoughts on rain; 1. My neck of the woods, Weyers Cave VA, had seen only 1 decent rain in almost 12 weeks. We were DRY. I had not mowed my lawn since mid July. I developed a sinus infection after only 20 minutes of mowing due to dust and pollen counts beyond belief. I LOVE rain and would like to see it one day a week. The fact that rain began on Friday and has continued through today has made me almost weep with joy, even though it made things a bit uncomfortable for my foxhunting plans this last weekend, it was FINE WITH ME. I am conducting tweed-water containment experiments as we speak. The fact that it is a long-slow-soaking type rain makes me so happy, I just cant voice it properly. Conclussion 1. I love and appreciate rain of this type and can only smile at the muddy floors I have now. 2. I developed a bit of fear late last night when I realized that after 5 long days of slow rain, I had not yet heard Noah--my faithful sump-pump kick on. He is usually a constant backround noise after 1 day of good rain. I live in a 200-year-old Virginia farmhouse and if water works its way past the topsoil, it will eventually find its way to Noah. I was not looking forward to pulling on my Wellintons to go see why he was slacking on his job, since a flooded basement would mean a call into my Furnace Repair guys as well. Just in time, I heard him click on and start his work. Conclussion 2. Weyers Cave was SO DRY that it took 5 days of rain, before water soaked down to my basement level. That is a record for my tenure at Checkertree Farm. Thank you, Heavenly Father, for the wonderful soaking rain. (feel free to stop any time now.)
