Two weeks ago as I pondered my decision to enter the political arena, I posted a picture of playing chess with a quote, “If you are unsure of a course of action, do not attempt it. Your doubts and hesitations will infect your execution. Timidity is dangerous: Better to enter with boldness. Any mistakes you commit through audacity are easily corrected with more audacity. Everyone admires the bold; no one honors the timid.” I believe that was the message from my childhood friend Kelechukwu Blackexperimental Brnfre. A true brother who defined life by this rule. He was the Frank Sinatra of our 2-5 rat pack of Dennis Robinson, Ezell Kendrick, Marvin Bardo, and Mark Anthony. While we went our separate directions, the rites of our passage from kindergarten to high school are deep and everlasting. Today after learning of his sudden transition, I tried to compose myself by looking through his Facebook photographs for a fitting tribute, I found one that was ironic and by no coincidence. He too was pictured playing chess with identical pieces on the opposite side. As usual, Kelechukwu was challenging me to live by our code of audacity and boldness. May the creator be pleased with the life, time and sacrifice of our departed brother.
