Two wondrous wildlife experiences yesterday. On the way to work, I counted 14 spruce grouse along Old Ridge Trail. None of them seemed to be with another, but I suspect that younguns and mates were lurking nearby in the woods, and that the total count would be more like 40. Then, last night, just at dusk, I sat outside on the back stoop. Along comes a female cross-fox, dark as night. She peed on the path just in front of me, and glanced at me over her shoulder. I felt like we were friendly neighbors, saying hello how ya doing on this lovely summer evening.
