Tying up loose ends today, as I prepare to leave here to return to - TopicsExpress

Tying up loose ends today, as I prepare to leave here to return to the US. A lot has been accomplished on the trip, so I feel quite energized. I will summarize our achievements here, and wait to upload pictures later, as that seems to be particularly slow, and time is the one thing I do not have now. We held our first free well-woman screening for low income women, at short notice. I had hoped to have 25 local women turn up, and we ended up seeing 32 before asking the rest to leave their numbers so we can call them the next time around. We did complete well-woman visits including Pap smears, and only 2 of the women who showed had previously had one, despite an age range from 21 to 70! Our waiting room was full for the very first time, and that was a GREAT feeling. I think this brought people in who otherwise would never have come. I would love to make this a semi-annual event. Our pathologists kindly reduced our fee for reading the Paps, which made our money go farther. Thank you! We performed our first emergent Cesarean and made good time, and all went well, despite it being Sunday night. Our home trained team “opened and assisted” on surgery, making us more independent, a trend we hope to continue. Our laundry machine has arrived, and we are busy putting up a place for it to live, along with an ironing table etc. The College of Wooster students visited, which ties us in closer with Wooster, a great town to live in! For the first time, we did 2 deliveries in one day, a boy and a girl; in both cases, the mothers had received their antenatal care with us here, and we also performed 2 surgeries in one day for the first time. We continue to need more experienced staffing both for clinical and administrative type work, and could very much use a service vehicle still, for purchases like oxygen and diesel for the generator. It would be extremely helpful for reducing staff expenses on transportation too. As far as our plant issues, the electricity has been much more dependable this time, but water has been a problem twice, so I guess our storage capacity is not as large as I thought. We will keep thinking about solutions. Pictures will be up soon. See you in Ohio, and thank you all for seeing us this far!
