Typhoon update : noisy windy night, apparently lots of damage outside, a few deaths & injuries from falling trees & glass in Guangzhou. Back sleep as school has been cancelled for now. This is from the news in brief : Typhoon Usagi killed at least three people as it made landfall in Guangdong on Sunday night while causing travel chaos in Hong Kong. The typhoon has weakened into a severe tropical storm and is moving away from the city but the number eight storm signal remains in force. Hundreds of flights were cancelled or delayed at Hong Kong airport stranding many passengers. Bus and ferry services were also disrupted. And the Hospital Authority said more than a dozen people sought treatment for injuries at hospital Accident and Emergency Departments. There were also reports of flooding and fallen trees. The picture was bleaker in Guangdong. The Xinhua news agency said two people died after they were hit by a falling tree. Elsewhere in the province a villager was killed by falling glass, while a woman was missing after her fishing boat capsized. Xinhua said inter-city trains between Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhuhai were suspended and winds were strong enough near Shanwei city to blow cars off the road.
