#TyreTipTuesday from Continental Tyres South Africa: Tread depth vs wet braking With the first signs of summer rains on the horizon, we thought it would be a good idea to show you this video ... Even though it is a bit dated, the message and result remain the same: be safe in the wet! The risk of accidents could be significantly reduced if tyres were replaced at a tread depth of 3 mm instead of 1,6 mm. In the wet, the difference between 1,6 mm and 3 mm of tread depth could be the difference between stopping in time or hitting an obstacle at 80 km/h. In wet conditions, it took a Ford Focus 91 m to stop with 3 mm of tread. In the same car, with only 1,6 mm of tread remaining, it took 135 m to stop - 50 percent further. These investigations were undertaken by the British motoring journal Auto Express and the startling results can be seen here ...
