Tyrone Peachey’s an Indigenous All Star waiting to sparkle on the Gold Coast TYRONE Peachey grew up idolising Greg Inglis and Johnathan Thurston, now he’s in line to play alongside them in next month’s All Stars match. Voting for positions in Laurie Daley’s Indigenous All Stars team closes at midnight on Friday, with just 20 votes separating the most popular players, Inglis and Thurston. Peachey, 23, is set to make his Indigenous All Stars debut alongside fellow Panthers teammates Jamal Idris and Jamie Soward. “It would mean heaps,” Peachey said, “I looked up to Inglis, (Greg) Bird and Thurston when I was growing up so it would be great to be able to play alongside them. “It’s a good feeling, it’s great to be involved in it and all the family have been voting for me so fingers crossed until we find out who gets selected.” Daley, who has coached the Indigenous team since its inception in 2010, is looking forward to blooding some exciting young talent. “We’ve got a great bunch of young blokes coming through: Tyrone Peachey, Alex Johnston and Jack Wighton,’’ Daley said. “It’s a great opportunity for these young guys to come into camp with some of our established players like Inglis and Thurston and learn what it takes to compete against the best players in the league,” he said. Daley has coached the Indigenous side since the inception of the All Stars concept in 2010. Unlike his counterpart, Wayne Bennett, who is coach and sole selector of the NRL All Stars, Daley will have no direct input into the makeup of his squad, which will be announced on January 19. “There’s no secret that Wayne will be looking to pick a big aggressive forward pack but I know we have the muscle up front to top them,’’ Daley said. “Players like (Tom) Learoyd-Lahrs, (Sam) Thaiday and Ryan James I’m sure will step up in the middle for us,” Daley said. Fans have until midnight to vote for their favourite players to represent the Indigenous team against the All Stars on February 13.
