Looking up, Abraham saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he ran from the entrance of the tent to greet them; and bowing to the ground(2), he said: “Sir, if I may ask you this favor(3), please do not go on past your servant. Let some water be brought, that you may bathe your feet, and then rest yourselves under the tree. Now that (4)you have come this close to your servant, let me bring you a little food, that you may refresh yourselves; and afterward you may go on your way.” The men replied, “Very well, do as you have said.” Abraham hastened (5)into the tent and told Sarah, “Quick, three measures of fine flour! Knead(6) it and make rolls.” He ran to the herd(7), picked out a tender, choice steer(8), and gave it to a servant, who quickly prepared it. Then Abraham got some curds(9) and milk, as well as the steer that had been prepared, and set these before the three men; and he waited on(10) them under the tree while they ate. Tell her to help me.” The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Có 2 điểm ngữ pháp nhỏ bạn cần lưu ý trong câu này: a.không phải sau to sit mà động từ to listen được thêm –ing. Nguyên tắc la: Khi hai động tác xảy ra song song, động tác thứ nhất cứ chia bình thường, còn động tác thứ hai được thêm –ing và người đọc hoặc nghe sẽ hiểu. Trong câu ngày có nghĩa bà Mary vừa ngồi vừa nghe Chúa nói chuyện.=> Ví dụ thêm: I sit in my armchair watching TV. (Toi vừa ngồi trên ghế b2nh vừ coi TV). My father has breakfast reading the morning paper.(Cha tôi vừa ăn sáng vừa đọc báo.) b.sau những động từ chỉ sự nhận thức (verbs of perception), các dộng từ theo sau có thể ở 2 dạng: nguyên mẫu không có TO (infinitive without TO) hoặc Verb+ing và có nghĩ khác nhau: - Nếu đt nguyên mẫu không có TO, nghĩa là nhận thức đó được thực hiện từ đầu tới cuối. Ở đạy bà Maria “listen to him speak” có nghĩa là bà nghe Chúa nói từ đầu tới cuối không bỏ phần nào => Vd: I watch the child cross the street. (Tôi quan sát đứa bé băng qua đường _ ý nói là tôi cẩn thận nhìn tới khi đứa bé sang hẳn bên đường bên kia) - Nếu V+ing cò nghĩa là nhận thức khi động tác thứ 2 đang xảy ra. Vd: I hear my friend singing in the next room.(Tôi nghe bạn tôi hát ở phòng bên cạnh.) Ý nói tôi chú ý nghe lúc bạn tôi đang hát. (28)to burden with much serving: quá bận bịu vì phục vụ => burden (n): gánh nặn tinh thần hay thể chất (29)by + oneself = một mình =alone=> Vd: I go home by myself after class=I go home alone after class.
