U.S. Embassy Bridgetown joins the United Nations and the rest of the world in commemorating International Literacy Day today. Literacy is a fundamental human right and the foundation for lifelong learning. It is fully essential to social and human development in its ability to transform lives. Earlier this year, in celebration of National Library Week, U.S. Embassy Bridgetown donated an assortment of American books, as well as educational games to the libraries in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. The books included both fiction and non-fiction titles and covered a broad range of the American experience, from children’s classics to the biographies of famous Americans including Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Jr. and former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton.
