U.S. negotiates shale gas exploration with Turkey: It is not that affordable for a country to explore its natural resources on its own. And as we can see, the United States is always there when a nation needs to start oil or gas fields’ development. Thus, U.S. oil firm ExxonMobil is in talks with state-run Turkish Petroleum Corporation over a venture to explore for shale gas in the countrys southeast and northwest regions. According to preliminary estimates, these particular areas are said to contain large deposits of shale gas. The information was confirmed in political circles. ExxonMobil is coming to Turkey to partner up with TPAO, Selami Incedalci, the head of the energy ministrys General Directorate of Petroleum Affairs said. It is interesting that Exxon already held talks with TPAO over a partnership in shale, but the negotiations were inconclusive. However, much has changed since then and now Turkish officials say the talks are likely to result in an agreement. Turkey is on the lookout for cuts in its annual energy costs that are estimated at $60 billion. Thus, it plans to develop alternative energy sources: nuclear, coal, solar, and wind energy. Meanwhile, Royal Dutch Shell and Canadian TransAtlantic Petroleum are drilling for shale gas in the south-east of Turkey. The material has been provided by portal MT5 - mt5
