U.S. oversight thoroughly corrupted. Staffs are riddled with intelligence agents that completely undermine the oversight process. U.S. intelligence oversight is a non starter. Spying and government interference - it is the tail that wags the dog. There is no effective oversight. The U.S. government is lying about the extent and use of its secretly gathered information on U.S. citizens. The use of this information goes way beyond what the government claims - terrorism, and includes protecting illegal or unpopular U.S. corporate activities, and targeting political, environmental and other civil society activists. The account below describes government abuses of information collected through intrusive spying - in this case on a Wall Street analyst: FBI (and ASIO) target Wall Street mining analyst (and girlfriend) after publishing report on U.S. mining company Freeport McMoran that touched on killings at the Grasberg mine in West Papua, Indonesia.
