U.S. warns citizens against using Baghdad airport Sunday, April 06, 2014 BAGHDAD – The U.S. embassy in Baghdad on Sunday warned American citizens against using Baghdad International Airport due to specific threat information. Out of an abundance of caution, U.S. citizens are warned to avoid traveling through Baghdad International Airport, the embassy said in an advisory. The U.S. Embassy recommends that U.S. citizens in all areas of Iraq…maintain a heightened sense of security awareness and take appropriate measures to enhance personal and operational security at this time, the embassy added. It noted that U.S. embassy personnel have been prohibited from using the airport through April 8. The embassy advised U.S. citizens to keep a low profile; vary days, times, and routes of travel; and exercise caution while driving and entering or exiting vehicles. The vicinity of Baghdad International Airport has been the scene of repeated rocket attacks. Most of these attacks, however, were limited in scope and have little effect on aviation operations. Recent months have seen an uptick in violence across Iraq. Although most attacks go unclaimed, Iraqi authorities usually point the finger at Al-Qaeda-linked militants. Copyright © 2014 Anadolu Agency
