U12 Final Results A Great day was had over in Duniry where our U8’s, 10’s took on Tynagh-Abbey Duniry in blitz’s and our U12 team took on the TAD U12 team. A beautiful morning and all credit to the TAD they had fantastic facilities and setup for the day which extended to the après match refreshments. Certainly TAD are a club doing a lot right on and off the field. The main event was the U12 final where both clubs were protecting their 100% records coming into the final. Cusacks had a number of lads involved with the U15 match earlier in the morning and had an number of absentees on the day – this resulted in slightly adjusted team sheet seeing Stephen Fahy starting in mid field and Nial Flanagan starting at full forward. The team sheet also saw management continue to place Colie Kearney at number 6, after his solid performance against Clarinbridge during the week. Aine Keane switching to the wing. Cusacks lacked their usual energy and drive early on and took a long to get going, TAD took advantage of this scoring a cracking goal on the 3rd minute. Cusacks finally responded on the 7th minute (point) and 11th minute (goal) from Connell Keane followed by Connell point on the 12th and 16th minutes. All these to a solitary point by TAD. Colie Kearny struck a superb point on the 18th minute driving up from his own half back to score an inspirational point. First half finished at 1:04 to 1:01. Second half certainly got more hectic with both clubs going for broke and chasing the win. TAD certainly meant business scoring points in the 1st, 3rd, 4th 5th & 7th minutes of the second half before striking another well taken goal after spotting the entire Cusacks full back line out of position. This gave TAD a 5 point lead on the 9th minute before Alex Curtin (free) and Connell Keane responded with points TAD were still driving forward hitting another point on the 10th minutes before Alex struck a free and the crucial goal coming from Connell on the 16th minute to level the game. Well as Sir Alex Fergusson used to say we were now in ‘squeaky bum time’ with the winner going to be coming from either a moment of madness or moment of inspiration. The inspired David Keane struck a point on the 18th minute giving Cusacks the chink of light that is a 1 point lead but this drove TAD on with 30 seconds left required simply heroic save from Ian Kelly coming off his line putting his body on the line and in the way of the ball saving the ball and winning the free to seal the win 2:08 to 2:07. This was not Cusacks best performance of the year and it must be said TAD were certainly one of the best teams met this year, we were short a couple of regulars but big credit to the rest of the lads who protected and carried on Cusacks proud record in the 2014 Championship. Ian was solid in goals and his interception late on was priceless, Full back line of Donnagh, Finbarr and Dylan were solid despite getting caught out just once (one a year is not too bad!) Our half back line was once again our launch pad for a lot of good plays where Gabriel was solidly excellent on the wing, Aine on the other side continues to dominate - alas in her last couple of games with us :( Colie has really taken to the number 6 jersey and is making great progress. Stephen Fahy had a very fine outing at midfield for his first start in the position – plenty of competition in all positions for everybody. Both Alex Curtin and Connell had played for the U15’s in the morning and both toiled well for the cause despite their exertions earlier. 2 games in a couple of hours was not easy. Ronan Gillane and Matthew Rosengove were the other 2 wing forwards with Robbie Hynes, Niall Flannagan and Dean Casey in the full forward line. Subs Luke Finnerty caused their full back line some problems upon his introduction with Eanna Gantly busy and David Keane with the winning point all contributed a lot on the day. A big test and a big win, we have a busy week ahead with a trip to Na Piarsaigh on Saturday and a U12 tournament on Sunday for the lads rounding off the years activities and then we start to look forward to 2015. Once more thanks to TAD for hosting us and we suspect we will see a lot more of each other in the future.
