UCSI University Sarawak Campus and the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation signed a memorandum of agreement during the campus’ ‘Korean Night’ on Friday, making the university the first one to offer Korean cuisine course in the country. Deputy vice chancellor, academic affairs and research, Professor Dr Teoh Kok Soo signed on behalf of the campus while managing director Lee Seong Bok represented the corporation. The ambassador of South Korea to Malaysia His Excellency Cho Byung-jae and his delegates as well as representatives from the Ministry of Tourism Sarawak and Sarawak Tourism Board witnessed the signing ceremony. The programme was in line with the Korean government’s drive to promote culture, food and music around the world. The objective of the Korean night event was to promote Korean cuisine and culture as well as showcase Korean food presentation and performance by students from hotel management and culinary arts programmes. The night also saw master chef Kim Yong Hyun presenting a cooking demonstration of Korean dishes. Byung-jae said that the collaboration could promote cultural exchange between the two nations and friendship among the people. “To maintain good relationship is not just through politics or economic but also culture exchange. “We are proud that our culture has become the attraction to Malaysia and other parts of the world. Koreans are also attracted to Malaysian culture. “Last year, about 300,000 Koreans came to Malaysia while 200,000 Malaysians travelled to Korea.
