UFC champ Jon Jones responds to coach John Hackleman: Im not Chuck Liddell It took some time, but Jon Jones finally responded to John Hackleman, and the current light heavyweight champion has made it clear hes not looking past Glover Teixeira. The head cheese over at The Pit in California is grooming the champs next opponent, Glover Teixeira, and thinks Jones may not be as revered as much as Chuck Liddell was back in his heyday, often getting accused of looking past his opponents (with talk like this). Bones clears the air on the issue, praising Hackelman as one of the sports finest trainers (via FOX Sports): I think the whole thing was based around me looking over Glover Teixeira, something that Im not doing. Im not going to sit here and insult John (Hackleman), I respect him a lot as a coach, I actually think hes one of the best in the business. Thats why Im training so hard for this fight because of how much respect I have for Glover and his coach. Respect. Still, the light heavyweight phenom wants to stress that hes incomparable, not looking for liaisons between himself and former champions -- or anybody else in the sport: As far as my likability compared to Chuck, Im not Chuck Liddell. Im just me. Im shamelessly me. Im really proud of what Ive been able to do in my career. I dont try to compare myself to Chuck or any other champion. I figure as long as long as Im breaking records and doing my part, thats all that matters. Regardless of how polite and reverent conversations are at the moment, the Octagon will be a place of brutality once Teixeira enters the cage to try to capture Jones coveted light heavyweight championship in Baltimore in three weeks at UFC 172. Predictions?
