UIDAI to complete enrolment in state by 2014 The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), set up to issue Aadhar card for rolling out Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme, is targeting to complete its enrolment process in Odisha by December 2014. While the enrolment in eight districts enlisted for DBT scheme in Odisha will be completed by March, 2014, the target is to enrol all citizens in the state for Aadhar cards by December 2014, said MVS Rami Reddy, deputy director general, UIDAI, regional office, Hyderabad. Reddy was in the city to attend a state level Aadhar and DBT workshop. The daylong event was attended by officials of UIDAI, bank officials, Directorate of Census-Odisha etc. The central government has identified eight districts Cuttack, Puri, Bolangir, Khurdha, Bhadrak, Balasore, Sonepur and Sundargarh to implement the Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG (DBTL). Slow rate of generation of Aadhar numbers in Odisha has led to delay in rolling out of (DBTL). There was hue and cry among the general masses after the Union government through an advertisement on November 1 announced to roll out DBTL in Cuttack, Puri, Bolangir and Khurdha districts. Many felt they would not be able to take advantage of the scheme as they did not possess Aadhar cards. In Odisha, out of 4.19 crore population, 2.70 crore have been enrolled and Aadhar numbers have been generated for 1.33 crore beneficiaries. Enrolment of 35 lakh people has been rejected for certain reasons. “Our target is to enrol the left-out beneficiaries in the four districts, where DBLT scheme is being implemented, immediately and then expedite the generation of the Aadhar numbers in other parts of the state,” he added. The departments, which intend to provide DBT and DBTL benefits to the citizens, should seed the Aadhar numbers in their data bases, the DDG added.
