UKIP Defending the Disabled staretheridge.co.uk/a-taster-of-a-few-policy-proposals/ Proposals for the future a) That the assessments continue BUT are undertaken & run by medical professionals such as ones hospital specialist or a GP. The assessment could be undertaken locally. A simple program could be put on the computer be & all necessary medical information automatically attached from the person’s medical notes as evidence of their medication, tests, results, diagnosis etc. The information is then sent direct to the DWP via e-mail. This will reduce the need for huge payments to ATOS or Capita & the huge number of appeals which adds yet more cost to the system thus will save even more money to the taxpayers. b) The first assessment within 12 weeks of the claim to ensure the claim is genuine and that the person will be in need of support for a period of time or indeed for life. c) Once the Medical Assessment is completed & the person is considered to have a level of disability/illness, that will render them incapable of work and in need of assistance for more than 6 months or indeed the rest of their lives; then this should ensure an automatic passport to any other benefits such as; 1) Disability Living Allowance; 2) Information and assessment for Council grants to adapt their homes; 3) Assessment by Occupational Health and then swift access to any necessary disability living aids; 4) Blue badge for disabled parking valid in every car park including ALL hospitals. This would mean that the person will be eligible for every possible means of assistance without having to go through the myriad of agencies and filling out endless forms. This will remove excess paperwork; reduce the amount of public servants in the departments thus reducing costs to the taxpayers. The system would be more streamlined & most of all will help those who really need it most.
