**UNDER 14 COUNTY FINAL MATCH REPORT** Spoils shared in Letterkenny Rally fever and the damp conditions in Letterkenny didn’t draw away from this fixture as Naomh Ultan and Moville finished all square in a game which had everything, great scoring and strong attacking play balanced with some excellent disciplined tackling. The rally did however hamper with the throw-in time as both teams arrived later than expected, credit to the referee and officials for allowing the game to be pushed back 15 minutes to accommodate the players, this also came as a delight to many supporters who were also caught up in the congested traffic. Moville drew first blood when wing forward Gareth Foynes pointed from close range almost directly from the throw-in and continued to push, almost dominating possession all over the field. Nerves were plain to be seen in the Dunkineely boys but they threw the shackles off and got stuck in after a few minutes. A good ball into top scorer for the season Darragh Murrin resulted in him being fouled after some fancy movement. He stepped up but his attempt sailed wide. From the kick out Naomh Ultan broke the ball around the middle and pressed the ball forward to full forward Shawn Dobbyn who was subsequently fouled. Darragh Murrin made no mistake this time and floated the ball over the black spot to open Naomh Ultan’s account for the evening. A minute later again the ball was broke and eventually fell to the eager hands of Shawn White who popped over from outside the 13 metre line. After a bit of a shaky start the Dunkineely boys were starting to really turn the wheel and proved this further with another Darragh Murrin free on seven minutes. Moville’s Kyle Harkin did get a point for his side on nine minutes but Naomh Ultan were beginning the dominant and it was obvious that they were in search of hitting the net. The ball once again found its way deep into the Moville defence and yet again Dunkineely were rewarded a free, which Murrin tapped over at his ease. Moville like previously broke quick and a long ball down directed down the middle towards big full forward Dempsey Holwel was dealt with excellently by net minder Dylan Baskin who showed is awareness and collected the fast paced ball. After some trading around the centre Dylan Henry, Jason Dobbyn and Christopher Boyle, all still underage for under 12’s, combined well to feed the ball to the strong Shawn Dobbyn, who sold two defenders well with a quick shimmy, carried and blasted the ball into the top right corner of the goal to extent Naomh Ultan’s lead to four points. Similar to earlier Moville always seemed to respond in some shape or form and got two scores nearing the end of the half from danger man Patrick Faulkner, one being a beauty only a few feet away from 30 yards away from goal. With five left Dunkineely yet again pumped the ball forward towards danger man Darragh Byrne who turned and bolted straight towards the goalposts with one thing on his mind, but his shot hopped off the crossbar to the delight of the Moville goal keeper who could only watch it fly by. The attacking side of Naomh Ultan’s game was well highlighted throughout the half but credit must go to the tenacious Dunkineely backs, lead by the speedy Mathieu Dupuy and Seanie O’Shea. A great example of this was close to the half time whistle when Barry Breslin came out of nowhere to put in a huge block on Moville captain Cathal McLaughlin, leading to an overturn which found its way to Kevin McGuinness and with one of his trademark lung-busting runs towards goal made almost fifty yards only the slice the ball wide of the goal. This finished proceedings for the opening half in which Naomh Ultan looked good however there was a threat evident from Moville’s big men around centre field. The question on a lot of supporter’s mind was would Naomh Ultan be able to keep up the fast pace they set out in the opening half? Moville somewhat answered these questions in the opening minute when, in similar fashion to earlier they won the throw in and subsequently pointed, this time from a dead ball kick from captain Cathal McLaughlin. They continued to keep the ball and tried pushing towards goal but they were getting turned down each time, through the means of some good defending, most notably Mathieu Dupuy’s brilliant last grasp block to stop a Moville point. Play was starting to base itself around the middle again and Moville were gaining the upper hand, but it was Naomh Ultan who capitalized. A great ball from midfielder Jordan Watters found Murrin who pointed from close range to take his evening’s tally to four. The ball was kicked out and was picked out of the air by the Moville captain McLaughlin who caught the Dunkineely boys on the break and in one of the finest solo runs imaginable he carried the ball all but forty metres and fired the ball into the Naomh Ultan net, the scoreboard read 1-5 to 1-5, meaning one thing, game on! Naomh Ultan still shook by conceding tried hard to get out of their own half but found it very difficult and just seemed to not work out. The Moville lads capitalized on their struggles pointing twice in the space of a minute, both scores coming from the toe of number 13 Kyle Harkin. For the next ten minutes possession juggled between each side, chances were being cut out early with good reading of the ball but were equally unjustified by some poor passing, a sign of the tired legs beginning to show. Naomh Ultan huffed and puffed and it wasn’t until captain Darragh Byrne, who started the game at full back, pressed deep and found himself in space, he carried and launched the ball goal wards only the see it go over the take the fixture back to a one point game. Minutes remained and Naomh Ultan needed a score, therefore they resorted to go back to what got them scores in the opening half, feeding long balls to lively Darragh Murrin and leave space for him to do damage. That is exactly what they did and a great ball landed infront of Murrin and in the same fashion of which he had done all evening he burst past his man and coolly passed the ball over the bar the tie up the affair. A free was awarded to Naomh Ultan a long way out in the dying seconds but it made no difference as Moville cleaned up to which the ref ended proceedings. Both teams live another day in a spectacle full of thrills and spills. Final Score NU 1-7 MO 1-7 Naomh Ultan Team Sheet 1. Dylan Baskin 2. Seanie O’Shea 3. Darragh Byrne (C) (0-1) 4. Lee Breslin 5.
