UNDERGRADUATE The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (Pakistan) (UAF) offers undergraduate study programs in 55 departments and institutes developed around various disciplines in agricultural sciences, life sciences, engineering, food science, basic sciences, social sciences and business. The UAF offers 21 BSc (Hons) degrees and majors. Various departments are spread within Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Division of Education and Extension, Institute of Horticultural Sciences, Institute of Soil and Environmental Sciences, National Institute of Food Sciences and Technology, Centre of Agricultural Biochemistry and Biotechnology. The UAF offers undergraduate programs at College of Agriculture, Dera Ghazi Khan and two sub-campuses, i.e., Toba Tek Singh and Postgraduate Agriculture Research Station. Five institutes affiliated with the university offer Diploma in Agricultural Sciences and eight colleges/institutes affiliated with the university offer undergraduate degree programs in commerce, computer sciences and management sciences. To develop a broad understanding of agriculture, combined admission system has been introduced for undergraduate degree programs in agricultural sciences. The students admitted to the program take general courses for two semesters and in the next two semesters they have a choice for enrolling courses from a range of more than 100 diversified Elective Courses. Then they select majors and degree programs. New undergraduate degree programs and majors in Microbiology, Food Engineering, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Animal Husbandry, Agriculture Education, Agribusiness and Marketing and Dietetics have been instituted. A module based system for lecturing to large groups has been initiated. This innovative educational practice worked very well for effective deployment of resources with enhanced learning environment provided to the students for teaching theory in large groups and practical and tutorials in small batches. To complement a transparent and authentic Online Attendance System, with attendance accessible to the students has been introduced. These initiatives have been very useful for effective class management and Quality Assurance. Special initiatives for gender development have been taken, which include establishment of Day Care Centre, Women Medical Centre, Women Residential Complex, Women Gymnasium and Ethics Committee. To increase access to education, several initiatives have been taken in the student finical aid system. This includes institution of UAF Alumni Scholarships from all around the world, establishment of Endowment for Students Scholarships, and to maintain the self esteem of the students, the Poor Boys Scholarships is enhanced and named as Need-Based Scholarships Another initiative has been taken for hiring of students on hourly basis for Laboratory, Field and Office work with the objectives of supporting their studies, training and inculcating dignity of work in them. Also Teaching Assistantship has been made mandatory for the PhD students. FSc (Pre-Agriculture) program has been started to enhance access of the meritorious students of the rural areas and prepare them to join degree programs in agricultural and veterinary sciences as their first choice. In this program, students after matriculation (10th grade) are being inducted in the university on the basis of rural quota to enhance the opportunity for disadvantaged groups. This program is now being upgraded as Community College. International Student Internship Programs have been launched to promote cultural, religious, ideological and institutional mixes for enhanced learning, understanding, acceptability and open mindedness. Students from various universities of Australia, Germany, Malaysia and Muscat do their internships at UAF. They live with the local students in the hostels and have a wider interaction through participation in curricular and co-curricular activities at the UAF.
