UNDESERVED KINDNESS But the LORD asked, Have you reason to be angry ? -- Jonah 4 : 4 [ NAB ] There are people who find it difficult to rejoice over another persons good fortune. They are angry when an undeserving person is afforded some unexpected kindness. They grumble when a rich per- son gets richer. They complain when clemency is granted to a con- victed killer and argue when mercy is given to a repentant thief. They must be some of the unhappiest people in the world, & self - ishness consumes them. Jonah had a problem. After warning the people about NIne - vehs doom, he found all the people repentant & GOD in a forgiv - ing mood. Instead of rejoicing that a whole city was saved, he be- came angry because GOD decided to show mercy. Jonahs anger at GODs forgiving attitude was born of selfishness. He became blind to the greater good of preserving the lives of undeserving people. Next time you see a person being blessed , or another being given some undeserved kindness, rejoice with that person. We who be- lieve in JESUS have already been afforded the undeserved kindness of mercy for our sins and the promise of life in heaven. Even the angels rejoice over such good fortune. --- N E L I A
