UNESCO Asia Pacific World Heritage Project on Marine Biodiversity & Climate Change Awareness among Youth Noumea, New Caledonia 6‐13 April 2014 - CALL FOR PATICIPANTS We are pleased to inform you that the UNESCO World Heritage Centre in cooperation with theConservatoire des Espaces Naturels de Nouvelle-Calédonie (CEN) will organize the UNESCO Asia Pacific World Heritage Project on Marine Biodiversity & Climate Change Awareness among Youth from 6 to 13 April 2014 (arrival on 5 April, and departure on 14 April) in Noumea, New-Caledonia. We welcome the participation of all interested members of youth organizations. Contributing to the 2014 International Year for the Small Islands Developing States SIDS, this youth camp will bring together around 21 youth participants from 15 countries from the Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) in the Pacific (Cook Islands; Fiji; Kiribati; Marshall Islands; Micronesia; Nauru; Niue; Palau; Papua New Guinea; Samoa; Solomon Islands; Tokelau; Tonga; Tuvalu; Vanuatu) together with New Caledonia and 5 countries of the South East Asia (Indonesia, China, Philippines, Republic of Korea and Vietnam). The project aims to create stronger links between South East Asia and the Pacific by empowering young people and their organizations, through a regional youth camp at the World Heritage site in the Small Island Developing States in the Pacific (SIDS). The activity will serve as a pilot to increase young people’s participation in a short and medium term youth actions, in particular related to the marine ecosystem preservation and promotion. It shall have a cross cultural educational and sustainable development / environmental focus, integrating training of local youth participants on some basic skills with a perspective of nurturing on-site marine biodiversity conservators. We would welcome participation of youth representatives from organizations from above mentioned countries who fulfil the following criteria: • At least 18 years old and fluent in English; • Experience in projects related to marine biodiversity, climate change or sustainable development projects in their organization or country, currently or in the past; • Be working on or be willing to create and implement a World Heritage project, or have a past project as an example, and have experience in youth project conception and implementation; • Have the capacity to involve other young people in their project activities and to promote their project in their local communities, and share results afterward. In order to get involved in the UNESCO Asia Pacific World Heritage Project on Marine Biodiversity & Climate Change Awareness among Youth please fill in the application form attached to this letter. Submit your application at the latest by 6 January 2014 by email to Ms Ines Yousfi ([email protected]) with a copy to Ms Quin Carmela ([email protected]). The organizers will cover the costs of the airplane ticket at the most economical rate from your country to New-Caledonia, as well as the local expenses including insurance, visa fees, local transport, accommodation and meals within the duration of the youth camp. After the selection of the participants, an official letter of invitation will be sent only to selected participants together with additional information and provisional Agenda of the youth camp.
